PRESS: Sberbank, Alfa-Bank handle 1st payment via blockchain
MOSCOW, Nov 29 (PRIME) -- Major Russian banks Sberbank and Alfa-Bank carried out the first blockchain-run payment transaction of mobile operator MegaFon that remitted 1 million rubles from an Alfa-Bank account to its unit MegaLabs’ Sberbank account on Tuesday, business daily Vedomosti reported on Wednesday.
The deal was verified with the help of four servers, spokespeople for the banks and MegaFon said.
Sberbank CIB’s head Igor Bulantsev said Sberbank engaged to the project a number of blockchain-wise partners.
The transaction was carried out in a private network with access permitted only for a limited list of participants. Sberbank’s IT infrastructure was equipped with a service to determine a single order of transactions and a certification center, Bulantsev said
Sberbank and Alfa-Bank installed required nodes of a blockchain network and a client application similar to a personal account. The amount of investments in conducting of the deal was not disclosed.
